If you can’t type properly, it’s no better than an iPad at replacing a laptop. You might be skeptical of the dual-screen design if you’ve tried recent thin-profile or digital keyboards. That could put a damper on what you do with the device. Given its super-thin size, it’s hard to imagine there’s a lot of power here. Dell hasn’t provided details on what kind of processor or graphics card the Duet uses. Practical details, like performance, remain up in the air.

There is little room for anything but pixels on both surfaces. Two large, glossy, 13-inch screens shine up at you, separated only by a thin bezel and a 360-degree hinge. When opened, though, you’ll realize it’s unlike anything Dell has made. It’s made out of sturdy aluminum and is every bit as refined as Dell’s XPS laptops, like the fantastic Dell XPS 13. In your hands, or on a desk, it feels like every other 13-inch laptop out there. Unlike the Surface Neo (or even Dell’s other concept, the Dell Ori), the Duet is a familiar size. But what size will they be? What kind of devices will they be replacing or iterating on? Those questions are still up for debate. The industry seems to have committed to that. This is not the only app in this space if you're using Apple devices, there's a built-in feature in Apple called Sidecar, which is free and works great, but you've to be using the same Apple ID on both devices.Īnd there are other alternatives too, don't waste your money for this app, and more importantly don't watse your time installing, creating account, configuring, etc.I’m a laptop reviewer, and this is the one to send your kid to college withĭell XPS 15 vs.

My gripe is this - fine, you can charge what you want for the app, but make it clear to users before they install the app they deceptively show you the app is a free app by making it an app with in-app purchases (subscritpions) in the Apple store they would have to share their profits with Apple, so to maximize their profits, they show it as a free app and steer you to their site for paying for subscriptions After you install the app (hoping this is going to be great), then there's all the other extra stuff you need to go through - create an account, install it on the devices, grant all the permissions (some require admin level access) after all that, you hope the app now works, but no, it doesn't they don't even tell you that you have to pay for it to work, you sort of have figure that out yourself at least tell the user in the instructions, after the setup is done, you've to purchase a subscription to make it work, but no, they don't tell you that. They used to have a free tier to connect with a cable, along with reasonable price for one-time purchase for additional features, but now greed got in the way, they removed all free offerings even for the most basic features now the most basic tier is $3 a month the least expensive ONE-TIME payment for this app is, are you ready for this, $230, yep, you heard that right you can get two 24" monitors for that price, I don't know why would anybody pay that kind of money for this app New users of this app, pay attention, this app needs a SUBSCRIPTION ($3/month for the most basic tier), it is not free also, don't be fooled by all the postive reviews, all the good reviews are from the past, when app had better pricing structure check the most recent reviews and you'll see all reviews complain about the excessively greedy pricing structure. Writing this review to help other new users before they install this app with high hopes The screen saver just isn’t entertaining to watch while I wait for the display to catch up. So when I’m doing rendering and come back to it, I have to sit and wait for the buffer to display everything, ie the screen saver, tick through 50 minutes at high speed instead of just giving me the current display. One very strange thing is that is appears to buffer what happens on screen.

I wish it would use the full display size, but I can do the things I want. It’s limited to 1920x1080 resolution on my iPad. But apparently if I haven’t used it in a couple of days, I get this experience.

I’ve followed all the steps on the website for this to just work. However, most often I’m stuck frustratingly rebooting, plugging and unplugging my USB cable, clicking blindly, etc. I don’t think it’s too much to expect that Duet, with my subscription, just works. This is very problematic and frustrating.

Since I can’t see the screen this means I’m stuck blindly clicking my mouse around trying to find the button I need to press, or take my Mac to find a television to connect to in order to get Duet working again. But Duet on my Mac Mini seems to forget it’s supposed to work and will sometimes bring up a dialog that requires I press a button to move on.
